After graduating magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a degree in biomedical engineering and mathematics, Dr. Dean Currie earned his medical degree at UT Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis. His internship and residency were at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio where he was the Chief Surgical Resident. The employees of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital selected Dr. Currie as the 2008 Guest Excellence Doctor of the Year. The award is based on the physician's care and concern for patients, professionalism, integrity, respect for other health care professionals, and willingness to go beyond the scope of duty. Dr. Currie was raised in Jackson. He and his wife, Debbie, have two children. He enjoys tennis, snow skiing, water sports and spending time with his family.
